KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Hector Santiago had one of the best starts of his career for the Chicago White Sox. Jeremy Guthrie had one of his worst for the Kansas City Royals. The White Sox roughed up Guthrie in a 9-1 rout. Dayan Viciedo’s three-run homer was the big blow. Santiago pitched a career-best eight innings.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The Texas Rangers have won the first game of a series against their 2011 World Series foe, the St. Louis Cardinals. Nelson Cruz snapped a tie with a two-run ninth inning single with the infield in. The Rangers beat St. Louis 6-5. Derek Holland started shaky but ended strong.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — It’s Mississippi State vs. UCLA in a best-of-three final starting Monday night at the College World Series. The Bulldogs played their way into the final by eliminating Oregon State and UCLA is in after beating North Carolina by identical 4-1 scores last hight.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks seem to believe they were on to something after they went at Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara (ZAY’-noh CHAH’-rah) in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals and came away with a 6-5 overtime victory. That knotted the series at two games apiece as it shifts back to Chicago’s United Center for Game 5 tonight.

SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — The NASCAR circuit is in California this weekend for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. Qualifying for the race is taking place today with the Sprint Cup race itself taking place tomorrow afternoon.  The point leader entering the race is Jimmie Johnson, by 31 points over Carl Edwards. The winner of this race last year was Clint Bowyer (BOY’-ur).
