KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — It’ll be an all-Kansas Big 12 tournament championship. The Kansas State Wildcats secured their spot in today’s title game against rival Kansas with a 68-57 victory over Oklahoma State in the semifinals. The Jayhawks advanced by beating Iowa State 88-73.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — In a season of disappointing finishes, the Missouri men’s basketball team has been ousted from the Southeastern Conference tournament with yet another one. The Tigers lost 64-62 to Mississippi last night after the Rebels rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit. Derrick Millinghaus’ driving basket with 1.1 seconds left was the game-winner. Missouri finished its first SEC season 22-10 heading into a still likely NCAA tournament berth.

MLB

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have named Adam Wainwright as their opening day starter, and he showed why in a victory over the Washington Nationals. Wainwright gave up just one run in six strong innings in the 5-1 exhibition victory for St. Louis. Matt Adams hit a three-run homer to provide most of the offense.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — New York Mets third baseman David Wright has a moderate strain on the left side of his rib cage that will shut him down until next week, leaving his status for opening day uncertain. Wright was a late scratch from the U.S. team’s line-up in the World Baseball Classic game against the Dominican Republic Thursday night. He traveled to New York to have the injury checked out.

NFL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Another day, another free agent signing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Veteran offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz is expected to bolster the team’s depth at both guard and tackle. He started 16 games for the Carolina Panthers in 2010 but missed the following season with a hip injury. Last season he was a backup in Minnesota.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says the Denver Broncos were forced to cut defensive lineman Elvis Dumervil after a delay in getting paperwork completed on a new contract that both parties had agreed to. They came to an agreement about a half-hour before the 1:59 p.m. deadline, but because the team hadn’t received the paperwork to make the deal official before then, it was forced to release him. Denver could still bring back the defensive end.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a deal with free agent receiver Greg Jennings from their rivals in Green Bay. Jennings caught 36 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns in eight games for the Packers last season.

NASCAR

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Kyle Busch won the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway with a track record qualifying lap. Busch turned a lap at 129.535 mph in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Kasey Kahne (KAYN) qualified and Busch’s teammate Denny Hamlin was third.
