EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — The St. Louis Blues are halfway to knocking off the defending Stanley Cup champions in the first round. The Blues will try to take a 3-0 lead in the series today. LA goalie Jonathan Quick got much of the credit for the Kings’ playoff run last year, but he’s gotten much of the blame so far in the series.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten homers from Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran in a 6-1 victory over the Brewers in Milwaukee. Shelby Miller pitched six strong innings for the win. Carlos Martinez and Seth Maness pitched well in their big league debuts.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Cardinals will be playing the whole season without their regular closer. Jason Motte is having season-ending Tommy John surgery next week. He was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right elbow. After Mitchell Boggs failed as a replacement, Edward Mujica has filled in well in Motte’s absence.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — For the second day in a row, bad weather in Kansas City meant a baseball postponement. The Royals and Chicago White Sox will make up their game on Monday. The teams were supposed to have a day off. They played into the fourth inning against Tampa Thursday before that game also was postponed due to snow.
