In High School football news…

The Webb City Cardinals football team, took home their fourth straight Class 4 State Championship, against Heilas Catholic at the 2013 Show Me Bowl, in St. Louis yesterday. The final score was Webb City 28, Helias 14. This totals twelve state championships over the years for Webb City.

In eight-man football, North Andrew beat Stanberry 16 to 13.

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas (AP) — Second-ranked Kansas tries to rebound from its upset loss to Villanova last night by taking on UTEP in the third-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Meanwhile, the unbeaten Wildcats try to claim their second straight ranked victim when they meet No. 23 Iowa in the tournament title game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals are giving Dayton Moore two more years as general manager after the team turned in a winning season a year ago. Moore was extended through the 2016 season. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Moore has been in Kansas City since 2006, turning a one-time laughingstock franchise into a winner – albeit not quite a playoff team – in 2013.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — The highly anticipated annual match-up between Alabama and Auburn takes on special significance when the two play in the Iron Bowl today. The top-ranked Crimson Tide have the inside track on one of the two spots in the BCS title game, while fourth-ranked Auburn can make a claim it should get one of those spots by beating Alabama today.
