SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Brandon Wood hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Kansas City Royals a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers yesterday. Wood, who hit 43 home runs in the minors in 2005, sent a one-out drive to the back of the left-field bullpen off Jake Brigham, the seventh Rangers pitcher of the day in Surprise, Arizona.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton drove in two runs to lead the Miami Marlins past the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 yesterday in the Grapefruit League opener for both teams. David Freese hit a solo homer off John Maine with one out in the second inning in Jupiter, Florida. St. Louis starter Trevor Rosenthal gave up four runs and five hits in two innings. He walked two over two innings.
