The Royals had to overcome both weather and power-related delays to beat the Indians.  The start of last night’s game was delayed more than two-and-a-half hours by rain.  Then, at Midnight, a computer glitch caused some of the stadium light banks to go out.  Cleveland’s Ryan Raburn was at the plate with one out when the ballpark suddenly went dark. The game eventually resumed after a 12-minute delay.

Eric Hosmer hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning last night to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians. Hosmer’s home run came one inning after outfielder Alex Gordon injured his head after colliding with the bullpen fence while tracking a fly ball. Jason Kipnis had an inside-the-park homer on the play that injured Gordon.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jon Jay homered and drove in three runs last night as the St. Louis Cardinals routed the Los Angeles Angels 12-2. Matt Carpenter also went deep and had three RBIs for the Cardinals. Angels starter Jerome Williams was rocked for seven runs in less than two innings of work.

(Undated)  —  St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for June.  Wainwright allowed just nine earned runs over six starts while posting a 1.77 earned run average and a 4-and-2 record for the month.  The Cards’ ace opened the month with a complete game against the San Francisco Giants before capping June with a similar effort against the Oakland A’s in a 7-1 victory at Oakland on June 29th.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City played to a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps last night. Aurelien Collin scored in the 35th minute for Sporting on a putback of his own blocked shot. Kansas City is unbeaten in its last three games, but has won just once in the last seven matches.
