KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Dejan Kravic’s desperation shot at the buzzer gave Texas Tech a 71-69 win over West Virginia yesterday in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament. Jaye Crockett scored 18 points for the Red Raiders, who advanced to face No. 7 Kansas in today’s quarterfinals. Terry Henderson led the Mountaineers with 12 points.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have reached a deal with free agent cornerback Dunta Robinson. He has played in 131 games over nine NFL seasons with the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs also introduced former San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith yesterday.

UNDATED (AP) — The Detroit Lions picked up running back Reggie Bush and defensive end Jason Jones while keeping cornerback Chris Houston during Day 2 of the NFL’s free-agent market.

— The Denver Broncos have signed Pro Bowl wide receiver Wes Welker to a two-year contract.

— Indianapolis has signed Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry to a four-year package.

— The Super Bowl champion Ravens released strong safety Bernard Pollard, who signed a three-year extension with Baltimore last season.

— Free agent safety Dashon Goldson has agreed to a $41.25 million, five-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

— The Steelers and free-agent quarterback Bruce Gradkowski have agreed to a three-year contract.

— The Cardinals addressed one of their significant needs by reaching agreement on a one-year contract with free agent running back Rashad Mendenhall. Arizona also inked quarterback Drew Stanton, cornerback Jerraud Powers, safety Yeremiah Bell and linebacker/special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander.

— The New York Giants have signed 11-year veteran kicker Josh Brown.

— The Browns inked former Arizona linebacker Quentin Groves to a two-year contract.

— Linebacker Philip Wheeler has signed a five-year contract with the Miami Dolphins.

— The Buffalo Bills began addressing their needs at linebacker by signing free-agent Manny Lawson to a four-year deal.

— The Jacksonville Jaguars have released receiver Laurent Robinson, who signed a five-year, $32.5 million free agent-contract last season before missing considerable time with concussions.

— The Bears have released tight end Kellen Davis, one day after signing versatile tight end Martellus Bennett away from the New York Giants.

— The Jaguars have signed free-agent linebacker Geno Hayes.

—The Vikings have finalized new contracts with linebacker Erin Henderson and wide receiver Jerome Simpson.

— The Dallas Cowboys are releasing veteran defensive tackle Marcus Spears.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) – Ervin Santana struck out seven in four innings yesterday as the Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2 in spring training. Billy Butler and Salvador Perez hit run-scoring singles for the Royals. Seattle has lost six of seven following a 10-game winning streak.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) – The Royals are sending former No. 1 overall draft pick Luke Hochevar to the bullpen after more than five seasons in the starting rotation. Manager Ned Yost announced the decision yesterday. Kansas City also placed right-hander Guillermo Moscoso on waivers.
