High School Softball

In the Class 1 Sectional Championship at Danner Park in Chillicothe, Meadville fell to Cairo 4-8.



High School Volleyball

Crest Ridge was at Lone Jack on the 9th and fell in 3 games; 27-25, 11-25, 10-25, putting their record at 6-9-1. The Lady Cougars travel to Concordia to take on St. Paul Lutheran tonight.




WASHINGTON (AP) — Chris Carpenter pitched five-plus scoreless innings yesterday as the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Washington Nationals 8-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the NL division series. Pete Kozma hit a three-run homer and Allen Craig added an RBI double for the Cardinals. St. Louis can finish off the Nats in today’s Game 4.




KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have hired Doug Henry to be their bullpen coach next season. Henry served as the interim bullpen coach the final two weeks of last season. He has been part of the Royals organization since 2008, primarily with Triple-A Omaha.




KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn is preparing to start his first NFL game since the 2009 season. The Chiefs are expected to be without Matt Cassel, who sustained a concussion late in Sunday’s loss to Baltimore. Kansas City takes on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend.




ST. LOUIS (AP) — With receiver Danny Amendola out with a collarbone injury, the St. Louis Rams will probably need a group effort to pick up the slack. Steve Smith and rookies Chris Givens and Brian Quick are expected to be in the mix this weekend against Miami. Amendola could be out six weeks after injuring his collarbone last Thursday.
