KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alex Gordon hit a two-run double last night in the Kansas City Royals’ 3-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Bruce Chen pitched six-plus solid innings to pick up his 11th win of the season. Chicago starter Chris Sale took the loss after giving up three runs in six-plus innings. The Royals and White Sox play the rubber match of this three game set tonight at Kauffman; first pitch at 7:10.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Lance Lynn pitched six-plus shutout innings last night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-0 win over the Houston Astros. David Freese and Yadier Molina each hit their 20th home run of the season. The Cardinals have five players with at least 20 homers for the first time in franchise history. The Cardinals and Astros wrap up the series this afternoon: first pitch at 12:45.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs are so banged up they’re altering their practice schedule. The Chiefs were planning to practice in pads yesterday, but coach Romeo Crennel said he would push that back a day to give injured players an extra day to heal. The Chiefs visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Rams continue preparations for Sunday’s game against the Bears in Chicago. Running back Steven Jackson sat out practice yesterday and is considered day-to-day with a groin strain. Tackle Wayne Hunter also sat out. He replaced the injured Rodger Saffold on Sunday.
