The Class 1 District 12 girls tournament got started Monday night in Norborne. In the opener, the number four seed Brunswick topped number five Northwestern 51 – 39. For the Lady Wildcats Marissa Kahn had 19 points. Bailey Meyer added 13 and Chelsea Lea Manson had 12. On the Northwestern side Mallory Gardner led all scorers with 21 points. Brunswick now advances to take on the top seeded Norborne Lady Pirates Wednesday night at 7.

Number two seed Hale rolled past Malta Bend 68 – 21. Courtney Eddins led all scorers with 21. Three other Lady Cardinals were also in double digits including Quincy Copple with 20, Shaylee Summers with 14 and Hale got 12 points from Morgan Daniels. Danielle Kiser had 7 to lead Malta Bend.

In the final game last night from Norborne the third seeded Tina-Avalon Lady Dragons advanced after a 54 – 47 victory over Keytesville. Tina-Avalon led by 10 with about three minutes to go. The Lady Tigers from Keytesville pulled back as close as four points in the closing moments, but Tina-Avalon used solid free throw shooting to put the game away. The Lady Dragons will now face Hale Wednesday afternoon at 4:30. We’ll have all the Wednesday night Class 1 District 12 tournament action on 103.9 The Grenade.

In Class 1, District 13:

Orrick defeated Braymer 59-50. Madison Winters led Orrick with 27 points and Samantha Fulte tacked on 14. Braymer’s top scorers were Madison Mallory, who had 15, and Sadie Watson, who had 14 on the night.

Polo had four players in double digits en route to their 91-25 win over Breckenridge. Adriana Segar led Polo with 26 points. Sidney Copeland added 16. Breckenridge was led by Felicia Gardner’s nine points and Lauren Robison’s eight.

Jaine Ruskey and Kaitlyn Jones had 14 a piece as Wellington Napoleon defeated Wentworth 81-5 Monday in the first round of district play.

Hardin-Central narrowly defeated Southwest 52-51. Olivia Ellis and Macy Foster led Hardin. Ellis had 20, Foster posted 11. Sydnee Rounkles led Southwest with 30 points. She also had help from Haylee Johnson, who had seven points.

Lincoln fell to Skyline 77-20 in the first round of district play Monday night. Meghan Cooke had 10 points for Lincoln. Morgan Renno tacked on six and Allison Spunaugle contributed four.

The Windsor girls beat Santa Fe 52-38.

The Crest Ridge girls topped Sacred Heart 43-35.

Mike Stone will be busy Tuesday with basketball coverage on the Grenade as well. Mike will bring you complete coverage of the Class 3 District 14 tournament in Higginsville, starting at 4 this afternoon with the Lafayette County C-1 vs. Lexington game. After that it’s St. Paul matching up with O’Hara at 5:15. The 6:30 game tonight has the Richmond Spartans taking on the Carrollton Trojans, and the wrap-up at 7:45 features Knob Noster and Summit Christian. Again all of those games will be broadcast later today on 103.9 The Grenade.
