The Carroll County Little League major league 11 and 12 year old girls all-stars are now the Missouri state champions!! They beat Joplin 15 – 10 last night in the title game. Now the girls move on to play in the central region championship July 20th – 26th, which is also hosted in Joplin.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Casper Wells homered and drove in a career-best five runs last night as the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 9-4. Justin Smoak added a two-run homer for the Mariners. Kansas City starter Jonathan Sanchez allowed a season-high seven runs in a season-low one-and-a-third innings.
The Royals host the Seattle Mariners for the second in a four game series tonight at 7:10 at Kaufman Stadium.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals scored three times in the ninth inning last night to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2. Matt Holliday hit a two-run single for the Cardinals and Allen Craig followed that up with an RBI single of his own. Axford’s blown save wasted seven scoreless innings from Brewers starter Mike Fiers.
The Redbirds face the Brewers again tonight in Milwaukee at 7:10.

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is free on bond after he was arrested on a misdemeanor family violence charge. Bryant turned himself in Monday afternoon to police in the southern Dallas suburb of DeSoto. His attorney says Bryant posted $1,500 bond after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is asking a federal judge for a hearing Thursday on his bid to block his season-long suspension stemming from the NFL’s bounty investigation. Vilma’s attorneys ask U.S. District Judge Helen “Ginger” Berrigan to hear their request for a temporary restraining order before the Saints’ training camp opens on July 23. Vilma has said his suspension is without merit and has accused NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL’) of damaging his reputation and irreparably harming his career.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive tells The Associated Press he’s agreed to run the league for “at least a couple more years,” Slive’s contract was set to expire at the end of the month. He says he has meetings about new TV contracts “scheduled throughout this summer.”
