>>Pirates Shuffle Cards

(Pittsburgh, PA)  —  Pedro Alvarez hit a three-run homer and the Pirates cruised to a 9-2 win over the Cardinals.  Francisco Liriano struck out eight in seven innings of one-run ball to improve to 11-and-4 for Pittsburgh.  The Bucs had dropped three out of four coming in.  Jake Westbrook allowed four runs in five innings to fall to 7-and-5 for St. Louis.  Matt Carpenter and Shane Robinson each singled in a run for the Cards, who have lost four straight since a four-game winning streak.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  —  The Cardinals and Pirates will play two today from Pittsburgh.  Tyler Lyons gets the ball for St. Louis in the first half of the twinbill starting at 3:05.  The Bucs will send A.J. Burnett to the hill.  The nightcap will feature Lance Lynn and his 12-and-5 record for the Redbirds.  Pittsburgh is scheduled to throw Jeanmar Gomez in the second contest.  The Cards are now 2-and-3 against the Bucs this season.

>>Royals At Twins Tonight

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The Royals look to keep rolling on the road tonight when they open a three-game series at Minnesota.  KC just swept the White Sox in Chicago and has won six straight overall to get back to .500 at 51-and-51.  Ervin Santana and Mike Pelfrey start tonight.  The Royals are 7-and-3 against the Twins this season.

>>Santana Shrugs Off Trade Speculation

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  Royals pitcher Ervin Santana is shrugging off speculation he will be traded before tomorrow afternoon’s non-waiver deadline.  The pending free agent used Twitter to note that’s he’s still with KC in Minnesota.  The Royals have also been linked to a possible deal to acquire Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick.

>>Chiefs Battle Rain At Training Camp

(St. Joseph, MO)  —  The Chiefs battled the elements Monday at training camp.  It rained much of the day at Missouri Western State University, with the precipitation and wind picking up later in the session.  The Chiefs are back at it this morning, with more rain in the forecast.  KC’s first preseason game is a week from Friday at New Orleans.

>>Rams Get Day Off From Camp

(Earth City, MO)  —  The Rams will have a scheduled day off from training camp today.  The team was back on the field yesterday for practice in preparation for the 2013 season.  St. Louis will practice at 3:30 tomorrow in Earth City.  The team will hold its annual scrimmage at Edward Jones Dome on Saturday at 12:30.  The first preseason game is a week from Thursday in Cleveland against the Browns.

>>Former Mizzou QB Gabbert Hurt With Jags

(Jacksonville, FL)  —  Former Missouri quarterback and current Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller Blaine Gabbert is dealing with a sprained right ankle.  He was carted off during Monday’s practice and will be evaluated in the next two days.  Entering his third NFL season, the 23-year-old is competing with Chad Henne [[ HENN-ee ]] for the starting job this season.
