CLEVELAND (AP) — Elliot Johnson scored on a wild pitch in the ninth inning last night to give the Kansas City Royals a 2-1 win over the Cleveland Indians. Eric Hosmer added an RBI double in the eighth for the Royals. Kansas City has won 11 of 13 and moved past Cleveland into second place in the AL Central.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Rookie Shelby Miller pitched five shutout innings before leaving with a leg cramp last night in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs. Yadier Molina hit a two-run double for the Cardinals, who had to wait out a nearly two-hour rain delay before the start of the game. Darwin Barney hit a solo homer for the Cubs.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri backup linebacker Torey Boozer has been dismissed from the team. Tigers spokesman Chad Moller says the redshirt freshman is no longer a member of the team, but he didn’t elaborate. Boozer was arrested last fall along with teammates Dorial Green-Beckham and Levi Copelin after they were reportedly smoking marijuana near Memorial Stadium.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas has dismissed defensive lineman Chris Martin over what coach Charlie Weis calls the junior transfer’s failure to follow some “stipulations” after his recent arrest. Martin was expected to start in his first season with the Jayhawks. He was one of three men arrested on suspicion of robbing people at gunpoint.

An $8.3 million contribution has earned a former University of Missouri curator naming rights for the school’s golf course at a Columbia country club.  The university’s Board of Curators voted unanimously last week to designate the facility as the Walsworth Family Golf Complex, a part of the Club at Old Hawthorne.  That comes five months after Don and Audrey Walsworths’ gift for upgrades at Memorial Stadium upgrades and a new clubhouse for the men’s and women’s golf teams.  Don Walsworth, of Marceline, is an MU graduate, CEO of a northern Missouri publishing company and former curators’ chairman. Two of his three children played golf for Missouri. A third was a Pac-10 golf champion at Stanford University.  A Mizzou Arena outdoor plaza is also named for the family.
