SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Marco Scutaro hit a two-run single last night to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 7-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of the NL championship series. The Giants evened up the best-of-seven series at one game apiece. Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter took the loss after giving up five runs in four innings.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher cited numerous breakdowns in the second quarter as the biggest reason Miami beat the Rams over the weekend. The Rams were whistled for seven penalties in the quarter on top of mistakes by cornerback Janoris Jenkins and special teams captain Brit Miller. The team hopes to rebound on Sunday against Green Bay.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — AJ Allmendinger will get another start with Phoenix Racing this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Allmendinger finished 24th in Saturday night’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Phoenix had planned to use Regan Smith, but Hendrick Motorsports asked for Smith when Dale Earnhardt Jr. was sidelined with a concussion.
