The Missouri Valley College football team remains in the same spot as last week in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The latest poll released Monday has the Vikings sitting at the No. 6 ranking for another week. The Vikings will host Baker University in a top 10 showdown this Saturday at Gregg-Mitchell Field. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. Baker enters the game with a 6-1 overall record and 4-1 record in HAAC play.  Baker is ranked at #9.

In High School Volleyball yesterday…Lakeland was a winner over Lincoln 25-22, 21-25 and 25-18.  The Lakeland JV also won…after losing the first match 22-25…the won the next two 25-22 and 25-20.

Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester will start Game 1 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Designated hitter David Ortiz will start at least once at first base when the series shifts to St. Louis for the middle three games. Ortiz will have to play the field for just the seventh time this season.  Adam Wainwright will start on the mound for St. Louis tomorrow night.

The New York Giants allowed just 206 total yards and picked up their first win of the season by stifling the Minnesota Vikings 23-7. Peyton Hillis ran for a touchdown in his Giants debut and Eli Manning threw for 200 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Adrian Peterson had just 28 yards on 13 carries for the Vikings, and Josh Freeman was just 20 of 53 for 190 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is done for the season with a torn knee ligament suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 30-15 loss to Carolina. Bradford tore his ACL in his left knee during the fourth quarter of yesterday’s 30-15 loss to Carolina. He landed on his knee after being shoved out of bounds by Panthers safety Mike Mitchell.

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland (LEE’-lihnd) is stepping down after eight seasons, three division titles and two American League pennants with the team. The 68-year-old Leyland says he plans to remain with the organization in some capacity.
