Adam Wainwright pitched eight-plus scoreless innings Tuesday night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the Washington Nationals 2-0. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 1.93 after allowing just five hits. Allen Craig and Carlos Beltran drove in runs for St. Louis

Rain postponed Tuesday’s game between the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers. The matchup was delayed at the start and called off about 15 minutes later. No makeup date was announced.
