>>Gordon Helps Royals Top Twins Late

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  Alex Gordon broke the game open with a three-run double in the eighth and Billy Butler homered in the ninth as the Royals beat the Twins 6-1 in Minnesota.  Chris Getz and Jarrod Dyson each had RBI singles for KC, which scored five times in the eighth inning.  James Shields gave up one run in seven-and-a-third innings for his ninth win.

>>Cardinals Rip Reds

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina had two hits each to lead the Cardinals to a key win over the Reds at Busch Stadium.  Joe Kelly allowed one run on eights hits over six innings and improved to 6-and-3.  The Cardinals took a four-and-a-half game lead over the Reds in the NL Central as Cincinnati lost its third straight.  St. Louis goes for the series sweep tonight.

The Nationals plated a pair in the first and held on for a 2-1 win over the Marlins.
The Pirates wasted not one, but two comebacks as they faltered against the Brewers, 7-6, in the first of three.
The Mets beat the Phillies 5-0.
Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval hit home runs for the Giants in their 5-3 win over the Rockies.
The Cubs picked up a 3-2 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Alfonso Soriano homered twice and drove in four as the Yankees blasted the Blue Jays 7-1 in the middle of a three-game series.
The Athletics and Mother Nature held down the Tigers as Oakland grabbed a 6-3 rain-shortened victory in Detroit.
The Red Sox cruised past the Orioles 13-2.
The Angels erased a 5-1 deficit to pull out a 6-5 win over the Rays.
The White Sox erased a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the eight to pull out a 4-3 win over the Astros.
A balk on Mariners closer Danny Farquhar in the top of the 10th allowed the go-ahead run to score in the Rangers’ 4-3 win.
The Braves shut down the Indians and pulled out a 2-0 win in the first of three.

>>Rams Gear Up For Final Preseason Game

(Earth City, MO)  —  The Rams are getting set for their final preseason game.  St. Louis welcomes the defending champion Baltimore Ravens to Edward Jones Dome tomorrow night.  The Rams are winless this preseason at 0-and-3.  St. Louis opens the regular season one week from Sunday at home against the Arizona Cardinals.

>>Jags Claim Stanzi Off Waivers From Chiefs

(Kansas City, MO)  —  The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed former Chiefs fourth-string quarterback Ricky Stanzi off waivers.  The Jags are likely to pry as much information about the Chiefs from Stanzi as they can before cutting him before Saturday’s 53-man roster deadline.  The Chiefs open the regular season at Jacksonville on Sunday, September 8th.

>>Missouri Prepares For Opener

(Columbia, MO)  —  Missouri is just days away from the start of a new football season.  The Tigers will host Murray State on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.  The contest is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.  The Tigers finished their inaugural season in the SEC with a 5-and-7 record and went 2-and-6 in conference action.
