High School Softball

The Norborne Lady Pirates hosted the Hardin Lady Bulldogs Tuesday. Norborne was too much to handle as Hardin fell 16-1.

Polo was at Stanberry Tuesday and fell 0-3.

Losing Pitcher Cati Bourch pitched 4 innings giving up 3 hits on 2 runs, 1 earned, with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Sammie Jo Copeland pitched 2 innings giving up 1 hit, 1 run and 3 walks.

The winning pitcher was Riley Bremer of Stanberry, giving up just 3 hits and 0 runs.

Polo is now 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in Conference play.

High School Volleyball

Lincoln High travelled to Appleton City where they fell in two sets 25-13, 25-13. Morgan Renno had 5 Kills and 5 Blocks. Allyson Morris had 8 assists, Elissa Sell had 6 digs, while Allison Spunaugle had 2 Kills, 2 Blocks and Lerin Eason came away with 3 kills and  3 blocks. Also, Payton Rath came up with 6 digs, while Sarah Barton got 2 kills.

(Kansas City, MO)  — Mike Moustakas’ RBI double in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Royals to a 9-8 win over the Tigers in the opener of a three-game series.  Moustakas had three hits and three RBI, while Billy Butler added three hits and two RBI for the Royals.  Aaron Crow was credited with his third win.  Greg Holland earned his eighth save.  Delmon Young drilled a two-run homer and Johnny Peralta added a game-tying solo shot in the eighth for Detroit.  Justin Verlander allowed eight runs and 12 hits in five-and-two-thirds innings in a no-decision.  Brayan Villarreal took the loss. Bruce Chen will get the start tonight at Kauffman Stadium against the Tigers’ Anibal Sanchez; first pitch at 7:10 p.m.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  — Pedro Alvarez homered twice as part of a four-hit, four-RBI night to lead the Pirates in a 9-0 rout of the Cardinals. James McDonald struck out six over seven innings of two-hit ball to improve to 12-and-6. Clint Barmes knocked in a pair of runs for the Bucs, who won for only the second time in eight games. Jake Westbrook was shelled for seven runs and 11 hits in five innings to fall to 13-and-10. St. Louis lost for only the second time in its last eight contests. Cards catcher Yadier Molina left after a collision with Josh Harrison in the second inning. St. Louis will put Joe Kelly on the mound this evening in Pittsburg. Pirates lefty Wandy Rodriguez will get the start in opposition; first pitch at 6:05 p.m. Central time.

NEW YORK (AP) — The St. Louis Rams and New York Jets have completed their swap of struggling right tackles. The Jets acquired Jason Smith from the Rams in exchange for Wayne Hunter. A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that St. Louis has also restructured Smith’s contract.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Chiefs will wrap up preseason play against the Packers at Lambeau Field tomorrow night.  Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel announced yesterday that linebacker Tamba Hali will play in the exhibition finale.  Hali won’t play in the season-opener because of a league-imposed one-game suspension.
