CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Anthony James had 14 points and 10 rebounds last night to help Northern Iowa beat Missouri State 48-37. Jake Koch added 11 points for the Panthers, who held the Bears to 27 percent shooting. Anthony Downing led Missouri State with nine points and seven rebounds.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Chris Carpenter is unlikely to pitch for the St. Louis Cardinals this season because of a nerve injury that kept him out most of last year. General manager John Mozeliak says Carpenter has renewed numbness and some bruising his in shoulder and hand. Carpenter had surgery in July for the nerve injury.
