The Carroll County Little League 11 and 12 year old girls all star team lost its first two games in the Central Region Tournament in Indianapolis. Monday and Tuesday’s results are not known. The team is coached by Jeanie Reamer, Robbie Mansur and Reggie Calcer.
The Carroll County team fell to Kentucky and Nebraska over the weekend. They played Illinois and Indiana this week. The lost to Illinois on Monday 6 to 1 and Indiana on Tuesday 11 to 1. The Championship round of play gets underway tomorrow morning at 11.
The other teams in the tournament are the state champions from Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, North and South Dakota, and Michigan. The winner of the Central Region will move on to play in the World Series in Portland Oregon.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) —Will Smith pitched seven innings of two-hit ball last night in the Kansas City Royals’ 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Lorenzo Cain homered and Alex Gordon added an RBI single for the Royals. Angels starter Garrett Richards took the loss after giving up four runs in five innings. The Royals and Angels play again today at 2:35.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Adam Wainwright pitched seven-plus solid innings last night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-2. Wainwright helped his own cause by driving in his first two runs of the season. Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw gave up eight runs in five-plus innings. The two teams will face off again tonight at 7:15.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Veteran catcher Jason Kendall, a three-time All-Star, has retired. The 38-year-old announced his retirement Tuesday, less than a week after signing a minor league contract with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

SEATTLE (AP) — Alex Rodriguez is going on the disabled list after breaking his left hand after being hit by a pitch from Felix Hernandez in the eighth inning of the New York Yankees’ 4-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners last night. Rodriguez was the third player to be hit by a pitch from Hernandez in the inning.

LONDON (AP) — NASCAR has suspended driver A.J. Allmendinger indefinitely after a test of his backup urine sample came back positive yesterday for a substance officials did not identify. Allmendinger originally was suspended July 7 after failing a random drug test taken in late June, and his backup “B” urine sample came back positive as well.
