Michael Bourn, Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley each drove in a run during the frame. Reliever Kelvin Herrera took the loss for the Royals after giving up three runs in just one-third of an inning.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ryan Sweeney and Cody Ransom hit back-to-back homers last night as the Chicago Cubs topped the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2. Jeff Samardzija (SUM-are-juh) got the win after allowing two runs and striking out six in eight-plus innings. Carlos Beltran hit his 17th home run of the season for the Cardinals.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission has paid $2 million to the Rams to cover the team’s legal fees for the dispute over upgrades to the Edward Jones Dome. A CVC spokeswoman confirms that the payment was made last month. The lease agreement allows the team to leave the stadium after 2014 if the dome isn’t deemed among the top quarter of NFL stadiums.
MIAMI (AP) — LeBron James had 32 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds last night as the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs 103-100 in overtime to force a decisive Game 7 in the NBA Finals. Miami’s Ray Allen hit a three-pointer with 5.2 seconds left to force the extra time. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 30 points and 17 rebounds. Game 7 is tomorrow night in Miami.
