Jake Westbrook improved to 4-2 on the season after allowing four runs and four hits through six innings. Houston starter Lucas Harrell was rocked for seven runs in three-plus innings.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jason Heyward hit the go-ahead homer in the seventh inning last night to lift the Atlanta Braves to a 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Kris Medlen earned the win for the Braves after allowing three runs in seven innings. Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer homered and scored on a single by Billy Butler.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have recalled left-hander Will Smith and option struggling pitcher Kelvin Herrera to Triple-A. The moves were made before last night’s game against Atlanta. Smith allowed four earned runs in his only appearance with the Royals earlier this season.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The University of Kansas athletics department has agreed to a seven-year deal with ESPN to carry at least 70 live events on the ESPN3 platform. The agreement was announced yesterday. The events will include regular-season football games, as well as men’s and women’s basketball games.
