(UPDATE 07/29/16 3:12 p.m.)- Khayree Darton, 36, of St. Jospeh, Mo. appeared in front of a judge yesterday July 28, 2016, at the Buchanan County Courthouse. A plea hearing and pre-trial conference for Darton has been scheduled and he’ll appear in court again August 8, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in the Buchanan County Courthouse.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo.– A 36-year-old St. Joseph man is in custody for alleged arson. A probable cause statement indicates Khayree Ameer Darton intentionally set his ex-girlfriend’s house on fire when she ended their relationship.

The statement indicates Darton and his girlfriend were together two years with ongoing domestic assault issues. After she told Darton she wanted to end the relationship, she began to leave when Darton stated, “that’s why I caught your house on fire.”

Returning home, she found her home fully engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported as no one was home during the time of the fire.

Darton is charged with first degree arson, tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution and domestic assault and is in custody at the Buchanan County Law Enforcement Center. Bond was denied and court dates are pending.
