Officers in Richmond were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Main Street Sunday night in response to a male subject holding a gun to his head. Once on scene, they determined the man had barricaded himself in the cellar. Officers were able to safely remove two juveniles from the home and, according to the report, the incident was never a hostage situation.
Following a three hour standoff and utilities being shut off to the residence, a hostage negotiator was able to convince the 33-year-old Richmond man to drop his weapon and come out of the cellar. The suspect was then taken into custody. No further details have been released at this time.
On March 3rd, 2013 at 4:50 p.m. officers from the Richmond Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Main Street in reference to a male subject holding a handgun to his head.
Upon arrival officers discovered the male subject had barricaded himself in the cellar/basement of the residence and officers were able to safely remove 2 juveniles from the residence. At no point was the incident a hostage situation.
After a 3 hour standoff and utilities were shut off to the residence a hostage negotiator from the Richmond Police Department was able to talk the 33 year old Richmond man to release his handgun and walk from the cellar where he was taken into custody.
The Richmond Police Department was assisted on scene by The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ray County Sheriff’s Department, Richmond Fire Department and Ray County Ambulance District.
