Several new businesses will unveil their products and services during an event in Moberly this week. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott talk to Vice President of the Area Economic Development Corporation David Gaines:
The idea behind the day is to provide potential opportunity for both sides. “It allows us to introduce new companies and entrepreneurs to potential investors, “said Gaines, “Each representative will have a chance to make a 60 second pitch to the assembled group. Following the presentations, there will be social time for more one-on-one type of interaction.”
This is the first in a series of events that will be hosted by the small business development group Grow Mid-Missouri. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Moberly Municipal Auditorium.
Anyone interested in launching a new company is encouraged to visit their website or call 660-263-5865 for more information.
The second snow storm in as many weeks that forced schools and businesses throughout Mid-Missouri to close also force the postponement of Grow Mid-Missouri’s first ever StartFest. The small business development group has rescheduled the event for Thursday, March 7th at the Municipal Auditorium in Moberly.
StarFest is an event where new start-up small businesses and capital come together. Several small businesses owners that have been toiling to develop their new companies were previously scheduled to present their products and services to the public. However the first date was canceled due to a crippling snow storm that blew through the Midwestern United States.
“Company representatives and investors alike were scheduled to travel to Moberly from both in and out of Missouri,” said David Gaines, Vice President of Moberly Area Economic Development. “For the safety and convenience of those traveling and participating in StartFest we thought it best to move the event to another day.”
Several local companies that are in the development stages and that have been working through the program offered by Grow Mid-Missouri will once again schedule themselves to make a presentation to the public regarding their company’s product and services. The public is invited to participate at 7:00pm on Thursday, March 7th at the Auditorium in Downtown Moberly.
Grow Mid-Missouri is a partnership between Moberly Area Community College’s Small Business Development & Technology Center, the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce and Moberly Area Economic Development to bring together the tools and resources to improve the opportunity for new small business.
The Grow Mid-Missouri website at www.growmidmo.com has an online component that is the first of its kind in Mid-Missouri. The website allows for entrepreneurs to work through the process of developing their initial business plan whenever it is most convenient for them.
“The idea behind Grow Mid-Missouri is to grow our own small business opportunities right here at home,” said Debbie Miller, Executive Director of the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce. “Assisting individuals with starting a new business is what we are all about.”
