State’s Pastures Have Little to Work With
The latest crop report from the Missouri Agriculture Statistics Service shows the subsoil moisture supply improved slightly though the state but is still well behind on moisture for the year. According to the report Missouri corn acres continue to advance at a rapid pace with 87 percent of the crop in the dough stage and beyond. That’s 12 days ahead of last year, and 19 days ahead of normal. Over a fifth of the crop is considered mature while 6 percent of the acreage has been harvested. Corn condition is rated 84 percent poor to very poor, 11 percent fair and 5 percent good to excellent.
Soybeans blooming and beyond have reached 85 percent. As of Sunday, 42 percent of the soybean acres were setting pods or beyond. Condition of the crop is 74 percent poor to very poor, 20 percent fair and 6 percent good to excellent.
Sorghum headed and beyond was 68 percent, 11 days ahead of last year, and 1 week ahead of normal. Sorghum turning color and beyond was 17 percent, 1 week ahead of last year, and 5 days ahead of normal. Condition of the crop was 63 percent poor to very poor, 27 percent fair and 10 percent good to excellent. Alfalfa hay 3rd cutting was 50 percent complete the same as last year, and 1 week ahead of normal.
According to the weekly report, 99 percent of the state’s pastures are rated poor to very poor with a measly one percent rated in fair condition.
