TB Test Shortage

The Lafayette County Health Center has announced there is a shortage of the skin test for tuberculosis.  Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with RN Glenda Bertz:

The lack of PPD tuberculin products is due to a production issue with the company.  TUBERSOL had the shortage, which caused a shortage of the alternative APLISOL.

Glenda Bertz said anyone needing an immediate test will probably be able to find one at an area doctor’s office.  This would only be necessary for someone who believes they’ve been exposed to TB.  Anyone showing symptoms would have a chest x-ray and culture.

The shortage is expected to be over by the end of May.
