The June First Friday at Katy Depot

The Sedalia Heritage Foundation is hosting the June First Friday event at the Katy Depot in Sedalia on June 6th.

Dr. Lyndon Irwin will talk about the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis and “The Cascades,” which is now known as Forest Park. Deb Biermann, Executive Director of the Sedalia Heritage Foundation points out this event will be a special feature tied to the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival.

Seats fill up fast for these free programs so contact the Katy Depot now to make your reservations. Doors open at 5:30 for this event with the program getting underway at 6.

The June First Friday at the Katy Depot, 600 E. Third St. will be a special feature tied to the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival. Dr. Lyndon Irwin will talk about the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis and “The Cascades,” which Joplin wrote in honor of its most visual effects: a waterfall on the hill in what is now known as Forest Park. Irwin has also written a book on a tragic train wreck that happened in the fall of 1904 just west of Sedalia; His book, “There Will Be a Wreck” is for sale at the Depot Store.

The monthly Happy Hour event starts Friday, June 6th at 5:30 p.m. for refreshments, and the program begins at 6 p.m. The event is free, but due to the popularity of the program, reservations are required to guarantee seating. Seats may be reserved by calling the Depot Store at 660-826-2932 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The event is sponsored by Joe Fischer and hosted by the Sedalia Heriatag Foundation.
