Three Killed on Missouri Highways Over the Weekend

Three people are dead after separate accidents on Missouri roadways this weekend.

The first happened Friday morning in Newton County. According to the Highway Patrol Ricky Pritchett, 45, of Purdy was heading west on Highway 86 east of Stark City when he lost control, ran off the road and hit a culvert. This caused his vehicle to flip. Pritchett had moderate injuries and was taken to Freeman West Hospital. His passenger Billy Ennis, 53, of Exeter was pronounced dead on the scene. Neither Ennis nor Pritchett were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

The next was Saturday morning in Franklin County. Reports indicate James Turner, 31, of Villa Ridge was heading west on I-44 when he struck the trailer being pulled by Daniel Johannes, 31, of Iowa. Turner’s vehicle then caught fire and was struck by the tractor trailer rig driven by David Luney, 77, of Colorado. Turner was taken to St. Clare Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The final accident happened Saturday night in Butler County. According to official reports Michael Payne, 24, of Poplar Bluff was riding his scooter north on Highway 142 south of Poplar Bluff when he lost control and overturned. Payne was pronounced dead on the scene.
