What is raised will go toward families affected by ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Johnson said very little is known about the disease, which kills about six thousand people a year. “Because not too many people die of it, it’s hard to get grants, hard to get pharmaceutical companies to invest a lot of money for research into programs where people do not, you know, live long enough to make any benefit or profit for them,” said Johnson. The tournament will be held Saturday at noon at Shirkey Golf Club. For general and entry information call Leamon Johnson at (816) 776-6007.
