The Trenton Chamber of Commerce and Police Department have teamed up to host the third annual Chili Cookoff Saturday morning. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Chamber President Debbie Carman:
The event was started as competitive fun for a good cause. “Proceeds go between the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Trenton Police Department,” said Carman, “The Trenton Police Department is going to use their funds to go towards a scholarship, which will be used at the North Central Missouri College.”
Registration costs $25, and can be made by contacting the Trenton Chamber of Commerce at 660-359-4324. Contestants must prepare at least a gallon of their special recipe.
“The reason that we want a gallon of chili, after the contestants are done, they prepare their chili on-site. At noon when the chili goes in the cups to the judges, then we open up for public tasting. You can buy a cup for $5 and go around and taste each one of the chilies.”
A pie contest will also be held Satruday morning at the Elks Lodge. Pies can be entered from 8:30 to 9:30 and participation costs five dollars.
