Troopers Respond to Fatal Crash

A deer is being blamed for a fatal accident Thursday night in Clay County.  Investigators said David Schoettger, 54, of Excelsior Springs, swerved to avoid the animal and traveled off of the roadway.  The vehicle overturned several times and he was ejected.  The wreck happened around 8:30 p.m., about five miles south of Excelsior Springs on Route JJ.  Schoettger was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a seat belt.
