UPDATE–Passenger ejected, multiple injuries reported following rollover accident near Emma

UPDATE: 12/11/17 10:00 p.m.A crash confirmed earlier today near Emma on I-70 westbound involved a single vehicle.

According to a crash report by state troopers, Deamonte Sykes, 21, was the driver of a vehicle that reportedly traveled through the median hitting the cable barriers. The car then crossed the roadway and overturned off the north side of the westbound lanes.

Sykes was listed with moderate injuries. A passenger Ronelle Baker, 32, was ejected from the vehicle and received serious injuries. He was flown to Centerpoint Medical Center by Life Flight. A third occupant,  Darius Rice, 20, was seriously injured and taken to I-70 medical center along with the driver.

No passengers were wearing seat belts according to the crash report.



LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mo.- Officials with Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol have confirmed an injury accident near Emma, Mo., on Interstate-70.

The accident occurred at the 61.8 mile marker east of Concordia, Mo., in the eastbound lanes of I-70. Mutual aid from across the area were called to the scene including Concordia and Sweet Springs EMS.

Initial reports indicate a helicopter transport was being called for one of the parties involved. Reports of injuries and parties involved have not been confirmed at this time.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel are working the scene from the outer road of I-70 but drivers are still urged to use caution in the area. Formal information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
