Vehicle Hits Student Attempting to Catch Bus

A Lee’s Summit student was struck by a car while attempting to catch her bus Friday morning. The child received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The initial investigation found she ran into the roadway when she saw her school bus was stopped and did not see the moving vehicle. The driver has not been cited.

Lee’s Summit, Mo. – On January 17th at 8:30 a.m. emergency crews responded to the area of SW Batten Drive and SW Raintree Drive on the report that a child had been struck by a car.

The initial investigation revealed that a student was attempting to cross Raintree Drive in order to catch her school bus when she was struck by a car that was travelling east on SW Raintree Parkway. The school bus had stopped on Raintree Drive heading westbound but had not yet deployed the stop arm. The child had been walking beside the vehicle and it appears that when she observed her bus was stopped she ran into the roadway and did not see the vehicle.

The female student was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the car was not cited in the accident.
