Johnston submitted his notice of retirement on April 1st.  He will leave the job at 5:00 on July 31st.

“That day is my wife’s birthday.  That’s not an unusual birthday present for some people, but it’s a special one for my wife because there’s a lot of times that the job has required me to change our family plans over the years.  And I’m thankful that my wife has been very supportive of my career,” said Johnston.

After he retires they will move to Houston, Texas to be closer to their daughter.

Johnston has been with the Warrensburg Fire Department since 2004.  He has worked as a firefighter for 49 years.
