In Pettis County:

A Sedalia teen appeared on charges of charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action.  A case review for Cody Bergman, 14, has been scheduled for the 19th of October.

In Saline County:

A Marshall resident charged with distributing a controlled substance near schools and possession of a controlled substance appeared.  The plea/trial setting for Brandon Marti, 22, is scheduled for the 24th of September.

The plea/trial setting for an Orlando, Florida resident has been set.   Ken Cheng, 61, was arrested after State Troopers discovered more than 50 pounds of marijuana concealed in commercial bags labeled as “tea” during a stop on I-70 in Saline County in March.  He is charged with attempting to distribute.  Cheng will next appear in court on the 9th of October.

A Slater resident charged with statutory sodomy and child molestation appeared.  The Disposition Hearing for David McCollum, 43, is scheduled for the 27th of August.

A Paola, Kansas resident accused of arson and Damage to a Jail was bound over to circuit court.  Gordon Simpson, 56, allegedly set fire to a Sweet Springs Hotel room.  He is also accused of charging at deputies as they opened his cell door in August of 2011.

A Gilliam resident charged with Pharmacy Robbery and Armed Criminal Action appeared this week.  The plea/trial setting for Lewis Edde, Junior, 19, has been continued.

A Marshall resident also charged in that case appeared.  Carl Morrow, 22, will appear for a plea/trial setting on the ninth of October.  He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and theft in a separate case.  He will also appear on those charges on October ninth.

A Marshall resident appeared for three separate cases. Shawn Cooper, 29, is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and receiving stolen property.  He will appear for all three on the tenth of September.

A Marshall resident who attempted to produce methamphetamine in a house with children has been sentenced.  Rickey James, 34, was sentenced to 22 years in the Department of Corrections for that charge and ten years for possession of a controlled substance.

In Caldwell County:

The arraignment for a Hamilton resident has been scheduled for the tenth of September.  Sarah Thompson, 30, is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

In DeKalb County:

A Cameron resident charged with Assault, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon appeared for a plea hearing this week.  Jeremy Noel, 27, allegedly took part in a shooting in Cameron in January.

In Clay County:

A Clay County judge sentenced an Odessa resident on a change of venue.  Joseph Echaves, 29, was found guilty of Deviate Sexual Assault and Unlawful Use of a Weapon in July.  He was sentenced to three years in the department of corrections for each count.
