It may be time to break out the snow shovel and salt again as a winter weather storm arrives later this week. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott talk to forecaster Spencer Mell:
Precipitation should begin falling in the area late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. “The models have slowed down the track a little bit, so it looks like after midnight we will probably see on the onset of precipitation actually as snow, ” said Mell, “As we move through the morning hours, we will see temperatures warm up and the snow could change over into sleet for a period of time and then switch back over to snow later in the day on Thursday.”
At this time, the models are predicting between two and five inches of sleet and snow for the listening area with the possibility of light icing. A large portion of the moisture is predicted to arrive during the morning commute on Thursday. Locations south of I-70 could see significant ice accumulation and the wind may produce dangerous conditions with blowing snow.
Stay tuned to KMZU for the latest weather updates, as well as possible closings and delays caused by the storm.
