Colby Sue Weathers

A Wellington woman is expected to appear in a Lafayette County courtroom on Thursday morning.  Colby Sue Weathers, 39, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her father, Tex Delana, 60.  Delana’s body was found inside a home in the 700 block of Highway 13 on June 27, 2012.

Weathers is being held in the county jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Her public defender, Jeffrey Nilson, is arguing that Weathers suffered from a mental disease or defect.  Nilson withdrew his motion for a change of venue during a December hearing.  Judge Brent Elliott, who was assigned to the case by the Missouri Supreme Court, will preside over Thursday’s proceedings.  They get underway at 9 a.m.
