The contract has been awarded for improvements to Route Z in Boone County. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to MoDOT Transportation Project Manager Make Dusenberg:
The upcoming work will focus on three projects in the area. “There’s the improvements to the bridge over I-70, “said Dusenberg, ” The bridge is currently a two lane structure and we will be building a new three lane bridge structure. Then we’re also doing some work on Route Z itself that will include an asphalt overlay and adding two foot shoulders and rumble stripes. The third piece to the puzzle in the roundabout that we’re constructing at the intersection of St. Charles Road and Route Z.”
Construction will create a need for alternate routes in the area. “Replacing the bridge will, of course, require us to take down the old one,” said Dusenberg, “This will mean some closures on I-70 and that work will be done during night time hours. Once the bridge is down, obviously traffic going across I-70 will not be able to do that. There will be detour routes, but folks that live in the area will know how to use local streets to get around.”
The nearly $2.2 million project should be completed in early August.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded a contract for improvements to Route Z in Boone County. Don Schnieders Excavating Company, Inc. of Jefferson City was awarded a contract after submitting the lowest bid of $2,052,749.
The project has three components: resurfacing Route Z and adding shoulders from I-70 to St. Charles Road; building a roundabout at the intersection of Route Z and St. Charles Road; and replacing the Route Z bridge over Interstate 70. The work is designed to improve safety and accommodate an expected increase in traffic associated with the new Battle High School.
The project is funded through a cost-share agreement between MoDOT and Boone County and is scheduled to bid in February of 2013. The work is to be completed in early August of 2013, prior to the opening of the new high school. Any work requiring lane closures on Interstate 70 will be performed during nighttime hours. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route around the construction.
