One of the first priorities of the board was securing an office space which they have now done.  “Our new location used to be the old Verizon Store, “said Lock, “It sits next to McRentals just south of Sonic.  The address is 101 East Ridge Drive here in Carrollton.  We also want people to know our website is under construction, but it is linked to our Facebook page where we give updates on a daily basis.”

Officials are also preparing to launch the organization’s first program this spring.  The soccer teams will serve children as young as the age of four up through those in the 6th grade.  “It’s called the 5-a-side instructional soccer league,” said Lock, “What that means is each team will have only five kids on the field at one time.  Regular soccer has 11, but this will give the kids more of an opportunity to play, learn other positions, and not be quite so spread out since it is for the younger children.”

Early bird registration will run through the 4th of March at a cost of $20 per child.  The fee increases to $24 with regular registration which is scheduled from March 5th through the 11th. The charge includes a t-shirt, as well as a one-day soccer clinic.

Volunteer coaches and referees are also needed for the program.  Anyone interested is asked to contact the YMCA at (660)542-0011 or by visiting their website or Facebook page.
