The Annual Jameson Picnic gets underway Thursday afternoon. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Lions Club Secretary Jan Duly:
The event started in 1892. “It was just a few people who decided, one day, that they thought it would be a fun thing to do to have a small little get-together in the city park. And since 1892 that small little get-together has grown and grown and grown,” said Duly.
The Lions Club took over in 1952, and has run it ever since. “It’s something that’s been in the area for so many years, has become a real tradition for a lot of people in our community and surrounding areas that are now bringing great-grandchildren with them. So, it’s something that we’re very proud of; it’s a heritage that we feel like we’ve been able to establish with a lot of familes,” said Duly.
The talent show begins at 6:00 Thursday evening. A list of events can be found at jamesonmo.org.
