Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident that tied up traffic on Highway 36 in Chillicothe Monday morning. The Missouri Highway Patrol says Max Archer, 22, of Hamilton was trying to cross the westbound lanes of the highway at Mitchell Road, when he pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer driven by Luke Swords, 30, of LaSalle, Illinois. Swords attempted to slow to avoid a crash; his vehicle ran off the right side of the road, but still struck Archer’s vehicle. Archer was airlifted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City with serious injuries, while Swords was taken to Hedrick Medical Center with moderate injuries. Westbound Highway 36 was down to one lane for a majority of the day, according to MoDOT. It reopened around 7:00 p.m.
