SEDALIA, Mo. — The Sale of Champions livestock auction showcases the best of the best from the 2019 Missouri State Fair livestock contests. Youth involved in 4-H or FFA compete throughout the week to determine who will attend the Sale of Champions on Saturday, August 17.

A total of twelve entries are listed below with the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion from six livestock categories selling their animals.

STEER:

The Grand Champion Market Steer belongs to Gage Baker of Fulton, Mo. Gage is the son of Rhad and Leah Baker and a member of the Rising Sun 4-H Club. Baker’s crossbred market steer weighed 1325 pounds and sold for $39,500

The honor of Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer goes to Mikaela Rojas of New Boston, Mo. Mikaela is the daughter of Byron and Alicia Rojas and is a member of the Shelby/Linn County 4-H Club. Rojas’ crossbred market steer weighed 1350 pounds and sold for $17,500

BARROW:

The title of 2019 Grand champion Market Barrow belongs to a hog owned by Macie Wolf of Reeds, Mo. She is the daughter of Gregg and Miranda Wolf and a member of the Avilla 4-H Club. Wolf’s winning barrow weighed 262 pounds and sold for $18,250

Mackenzie Mawson of Archie, Mo. received the honor of Reserve Grand Champion Market Barrow. She is the daughter of Rodney and Kay Mawson and a member of the Archie FFA Chapter. Mawson’s crossbred barrow weighed 270 pounds and sold for $23750

MARKET GOAT:

Skyler Scotten of Nevada, Mo. exhibited the Grand Champion Market Goat. He is the son of Shannon and Krista Scotten and a member of the Nevada FFA Chapter. Scotten’s champion market goat weighed 92 pounds and sold for $23,750

The title of Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat goes to an animal owned by Adam Rhoades of Centralia, Mo. He is the son of Dan and Nicole Rhoades and a member of the Centralia 4-H Club. Rhoades’ prize-winning goat weighed 96 pounds and sold for $6500

MARKET LAMB:

The 2019 Grand Champion Market Lamb belongs to Reagan Rodgers of Savannah, Mo. She is the daughter of Blaine and Melissa Rodgers and is a member of the Kodiak Kadettes 4-H Club. Rodgers’ award-winning market lamb weighed 139 pounds and sold for $16,500

Tayton Dains of Rockville, Mo. is the recipient of the title of Reserve Champion Market Lamb. He is the son of Tyler McVay and Kalie Dains and is a member of the Hudson Hustlers 4-H Club. Dains’ winning lamb weighed 145 pounds and sold for $10,500

MARKET PEN OF POULTRY:

The title of Grand Champion of Market Pen of Chickens goes to Stephen Thomson of Salisbury, Mo. He is the son of Leanna Thomson and a member of the Chariton Shining Stars 4-H Club. Thomson’s chickens weighed an average of 8.1 pounds and sold for $5,000

Stephen also takes home the title of Reserve Grand Champion Market Pen of Chickens. His prize-winning chickens weighed an average of 7.2 pounds and sold for $4,700

MARKET PEN OF RABBITS:

For 2019, the title of Grand Champion Market Pen of Rabbits belongs to Gunnar Fisher of Verona, Mo. He is the son of Devin and Shane Fisher and is a member of the Aurora FFA Chapter. Fisher’s winning New Zealand Black rabbit weighed an average of 4.75 pounds and sold for $2,500

The honor of Reserve Grand Champion Market Pen of Rabbits goes to Codi Viehmann of New Florence, Mo. She is the daughter of James and Donna Viehmann and is a member of the Montgomery County FFA Chapter. Viehmann’s award-winning Californian rabbits weighed an average of 5.1 pounds and sold for $4,500.

The total amount raised from the 2019 Sale of Champions was $156,300.
