LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mo.- Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident late last night that hospitalized five area residents.

According to the filed accident report, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Kaylie Bettinger, 17, of Bates City, was driving northbound on Route D, just north of Happy Hollow Road, when she swerved to avoid striking a deer. She then over corrected causing her vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway, strike an embankment and overturn.

Bettinger and another 17-year-old occupant Maddisyn Vantine, of Odessa, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Centerpoint Medical Center by EMS.

Three other occupants, who were reportedly not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, Alyssa Bettinger, 10, Mariah Bettinger, 13, both of Bates City, and Alexi Keeton, of Odessa, all suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Children’s Mercy by emergency personnel for further treatment.
