RAY COUNTY, Mo. – At a motion hearing Tuesday in Ray County, the court sustained a motion by Gary M. Wyant, 32, of Lawson, for a change of judge.
The motion was filed last Friday by the public defender assigned to Wyant’s child abuse case. Wyant is charged with eleven counts of felony child abuse or neglect with no sexual contact, felony tampering with a victim and felony tampering with evidence in a felony prosecution.
Two minor children reported to authorities that Wyant used to bind their hands and tape them in cardboard boxes for punishment. They also allege he used a belt and a special wooden paddle to discipline them.
The Presiding Judge will have to appoint a new judge to hear the case.
