Click play below to listen to American Legion Memorial Post #557 Commander Tracy Weisgerber’s full interview with KMZU’s Ashley Johnson.
Post #557 is asking for everyone to come out and support their local American Legion, so they can continue helping in the community. “Because we are a non-profit organization, most of what we do comes through donations or our fish fry’s and things like that,” said Weisgerber, “What we do, is each year we pick a deserving senior to get a scholarship and we also keep our streets decorated with flags. However, the storm in August took a bunch of our flags and poles, so we’re trying to rebuild that.”
They’re not asking for a lot, whatever you can afford to donate is good for this event. “This also goes to support the veterans,” Weisgerber said, “We do memorial services and this will also help buy uniform accoutrements that are going to be continually used, like helmets and maybe towards the purchase of ammunition and things like that for the Honor Guard and parades and such.”
This is a free will donation dinner that will be serving fried fish, fried potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw, homemade rolls, and many different kinds of desserts.
If you are interested in donating to a good cause while eating some good food, you can make your way over to the Masonic Lodge in Polo between 4:30 and 7:00 this evening.
