He is pushing his racing wheelchair the equivalent of two to three marathons in 71 days.

Ryan Chalmers set out to travel across the United States from Los Angeles to New York City to motivate and encourage those with physical disabilities.  The 24 year-old athlete was born with Spina Bifida and has never had full use of his legs.

Chalmers left L.A. on Apr. 6 and he is expected to arrive in New York City on June 15.  His journey has taken him to Norborne where he will be arriving around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.  He will continue on to Carrollton where he will stop for the evening.  Chalmers will then leave from Norborne at 7:30 a.m. Friday.

It’s the first time anything like this has ever been attempted in a racing wheelchair. The goal of the cross country ride is to bring attention to the organization, Stay Focused, a nonprofit group that works with teens and adults with physical disabilities.
