A national champion will be crowned in college football tonight as Oregon and
Auburn meet in the BCS National Championship Game in Arizona. Oregon has never
won a national title in football and enters the contest with a high-powered
offense that led the nation in scoring at 49.3 points per game and total
offense at 537.5 yards per outing. Auburn has also put up some proficient
numbers with 42.7 points and 497.7 yards per game, thanks to Heisman Trophy
winner Cam Newton. The junior quarterback rushed for 1,409 yards and 20
touchdowns while throwing for 2,589 yards and 28 more scores. He’ll try to
lead Auburn to its first national title since 1957 and will try to give the
SEC its fifth straight national champion.
