The Boys and Girls Club summer program will take place again this year. The elementary program will run from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the teen program will be from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Laclasse said this years focus will be on Science Technology Engineering and Math. “During the school year kids have so many subjects and topics they need to keep up on, and in the summer they lose a step or two because they aren’t thinking, engaging, or learning as much. So, our programs are aimed at being educational, but it is summer, so we want the kids to have fun and do things like going outdoors, and doing experiments.”

He said this year will have a higher attendance rate because the organization’s financial position has changed for the better. “This year we are able to expand our hours and reduce costs to $10.00 per day for elementary, and $2.00 per day for teens. The daily fees cover admittance, all of the activities we will do, and  breakfast, lunch, and a snack.”

Matt said they are hoping for quite a few new members, and there will not be a limit to how many students can participate. “We can scale our staffing in such a way that we can accommodate all the children that want to participate.” He says the price for the teen group is lower to increase the chances of older children attending the program. ” The idea is to draw more of the older group in. Unfortunately the club is not at a point where we can charge no fees, which is where we want to get. Right now we have more elementary children attending so it makes sense to have a higher rate for the younger group and lower the price for the older kids.”
