The Fall Blood drive in Warrensburg gets underway Friday and is being sponsored by the Local Police and Fire Departments. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross speak with Warrensburg Police Corporal Tom Carey.
The drive starts at 10 a.m. and Corporal Tom Carey of the Warrensburg PD says it is in memory of those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.
“It’s in honor of our fallen comrades and the other heroes of 9/11. We’ve done this for several years and hope to have a big turnout. Our blood drives are with Community Blood Center from Kansas City,” Carey said.
“Every year we’ve done these blood drives we’ve won awards and five years in a row we’ve won two awards each year. So, we’ve been real successful. The need for blood is a constant need, and it’s just part of our service to the community to sponsor these blood drives,” Carey added.
Corporal Carey also says you can make an appointment or just show up.
“They take appointments ahead of walk-ins (but) walk-ins are welcome. We’ll have Papa Murphy’s Pizza we cook right there for donors. That starts at 11 o’clock. We’ll get the pizzas and we’ll start cooking and by 11:15 we’ll have pizza for the rest of the day,” he said.
“And like I said, its Papa Murphy’s Pizza we cook right there so it’s hot & fresh the whole day long. Come in and save your lunch money for another day and donate blood, save a life, and enjoy your Friday,” he concluded.
The blood drive runs till 6 p.m. at the Warrensburg Community Center, 445 Gay Street, Warrensburg, Mo. in the Conference Room.
